Folks, After enfolding the beautiful nature in the North East part of Georgia, It was time for us to explore the west of Georgia. Our first stop was to Kutaisi which is the second largest city in Georgia after Tbilisi.
We reached the center of the Kutaisi City after 3 hours of drive through the curvy roads from Tbilisi. Post reaching Kutaisi, we had a glimpse of the famous bridge called the white bridge which is built above river Rioni. This bridge looks unique. 🙂
We happened to stroll around some parts of the city and I must say it was a different experience. The city is filled with trees lined in the streets and beautiful parks. The atmosphere was different compared to Tbilisi. We did have a good time over there. 🙂 We spent around 2 hours in this place 🙂
Our next stop was to one of the adventurous things which we ever saw . Yes, It was the most famous Prometheus Cave which is Georgia’s natural wonder. 😀 . It takes around 40 kms to reach Prometheus Cave from Kutaisi. The cave is located near to a place named Tskaltubo. You will be accompanied by lush green trees with cool breeze while you are on the way to Prometheus Cave.
Note : Entrance fees for Prometheus Cave will cost you 20 GEL without boat ride and 35 GEL with boat ride per person.
This cave is one of the most popular destinations in the region. Here you can find a very special form of stalactites, stalagmites, petrified stone waterfalls and hanging curtains, underground River and lakes – all this on a nice 1.5 km walk in mysterious and cool atmosphere. In addition, you will also have a chance take a boat tour through an underground lake.
Note : Prometheus cave will close by 5.30 or 6 PM. They say it will be closed on Monday’s. It is always better to check all the details once in prior before you plan to go there.
Let me take you through an interesting history on why the cave is called Prometheus Cave 😉
They say the greek legend Prometheus, who stole fire from the gods, for which he was punished and chained to Khvamli Mountain, which can be seen from this Cave. So, they named it.
Folks, Enjoy these beautiful pictures as i take you through one of the mind blowing adventurous place in Georgia 🙂 . Another fact is that It was formed millions of years ago 😮
Note : you will be accompanied by a guide who can speak in all the three languages i.e., English, Georgian and Russian from the entrance. One more important thing is that, flash in the camera is not allowed if you want to take pics. Be prepared with some alternatives.
Note : You can look out for one of the hotels in Tskaltubo which is near to Prometheus cave if you plan to go. We were put up in a hotel named NIKALA. There are bus services available from Kutaisi to Tskaltubo.
We spent around 2 hours in this beautiful place 🙂
