It was in the midst of a beautiful rainy season, my friends and I planned to take a break from our busy schedule in Bengaluru and headed towards Kodagu(also called Coorg or Madikeri) to enjoy it’s austere sights and look into its varied wildlife. It is one of the best tourist destination in Karnataka. It is also called the Scotland of India.
We left Bengaluru around 7 AM in the morning. On the way in Mysore Road, we stopped at a hotel near Bidadi for breakfast around 9.30 AM as we were starving. The place Bidadi is famous for thatte idli also called as plate idli. It has lot of hotels where they serve this.We happened to visit one of the hotels and decided to take plate idli with vada. I must say it was the most delicious breakfast I had after long time. I enjoyed consuming every piece of it. The idlis were so soft and when it was dipped in chutney and kept in mouth , it was something more than delicious.
After refuelling ourselves with those delicious plate idlis, we resumed our journey towards Coorg. The weather was normal. We were all pumped up.
As we approached towards coorg, we got a glimpse of rain kissing the ground and clouds touching the mountains. It was a cloudy weather with mountains covered all over the place. The scenic views all across coorg made us feel delightful 🙂
Finally around 3.30 PM, we reached the place we had booked called “RAMCAD ESTATE“.
post reaching the estate, We decided to finish our lunch first. We did get a homely feeling in the estate with the hospitality we got. After lunch, we planned to climb up the place to explore behind the estate but unfortunately our plan got ruined because of heavy rain.It was getting dark too. So, we decided to stay back in the estate. We happened to kill time on that day with lot of talks and by playing cards. 🙂
Note : RamCad Estate is located very near to Irpu Falls in Coorg. The distance between them is around 2 to 3 Kms.
Next day morning, We planned to go to Irpu falls which was located very near to our estate. So, around 11 AM we reached Irpu Falls. Fortunately, there was good amount of sunlight. The distance from the gate to the falls is around 0.75 to 1 km km. It is considered to be a holy place by the locals. It is also called Lakshmana Theertha Falls.
The Trek to the Irpu falls from the entrance is fascinating. It keeps you in lot of suspense on how the waterfall looks. As you start to trek, you can see lot of trees and rocks on the way. You get to listen the roaring sound of the water stream.Since it is a famous tourist spot, you will always spot a human being over there. 😛
Note : Please be careful if you are travelling to Coorg in rainy season as it will be filled with leeches near water area.
Once you start nearing to the falls, the intensity of the sound of the water stream increases and you will witness something majestic when you get a glimpse of it. There were sign boards about the presence of animals since it is a forest area.:)
Once we reached near to the falls, the place was almost covered with mist and it was slippery on the rocks. We decided not to get drenched in the water as we had ran out of time to visit our next place and also the water force was high and it was cold.We just stood there gazing at the majestic view of the waterfall.
We enjoyed every bit of the moment that we spent near to the falls. The feel near the falls was mind blowing. We took as many snaps as possible to cherish our memories. After sometime, we decided to leave the place and headed back to our estate. 😦 It was a memorable trip with my friends indeed.
I am sure these pics will make you visit the Irpu Falls whenever you plan to visit coorg. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment here.
1.Best time to visit coorg is during summer as the water quantity will be less and you might be able to cover many places but if you want to see the real beauty of coorg , you should visit it in rainy season.
2. Please be careful with the leeches if you visit coorg in rainy season.
3.If you have more time, Please try to visit other beautiful places in coorg like Abbe Falls, Dubare etc.
4.Regarding the expenses, It would cost less than 5k Indian Rupees per person for a trip to Coorg for less than 3 nights excluding flights.
